Wisconsin’s development officials are trying to attract a major airplane manufacturer to the Badger state.
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation issued a statement saying they are putting together a proposal for Boeing, which is looking for a site to build the next generation 777X commercial airplane. Boeing is searching for a new site, after talks with the machinist union in Washington state broke down when union members rejected proposed concessions that would have meant pension and health insurance cuts.
WEDC officials were not asked for a proposal by Boeing, but state officials say there are already more than 140 suppliers to the aerospace industry in Wisconsin. Many of them already supply Boeing, making Wisconsin uniquely positioned to meet the company’s needs.
Wisconsin will have stiff competition in the race to attract the company. The State of Missouri is offering over $1.7 billion dollars in incentives.
