A sign of the season has arrived at the Wisconsin state Capitol in Madison. Whether you call it a Christmas tree or a holiday tree, the forty-foot balsam fir will adorn the rotunda through the season. The tree was harvested from the property of Dennis and Kim Schoeneck of Schoeneck Tree Farm near Rhinelander. “It actually came from my yard,” Dennis Schoeneck said.
Schoeneck said he’s sheared the tree over the years to help it maintain its shape, but once it got to big for that he called the state to offer it. This is the first tree the Schoeneck’s have provided for the Capitol. “Now look out Washington, here I come,” Schoeneck laughed as the tree was delivered Friday morning.
The Schoenecks also provided other trees to decorate the Capitol Square and the exterior of the Executive Residence.
