Cayla McMorris hit the game winning shot with 3.2 seconds left to give the Wisconsin Badgers a 54-52 win over Delaware in the first game of the San Diego State Thanksgiving Classic at Viejas Arena.
Delaware’s Erika Brown hit a three-pointer to tie the game with nine-seconds remaining, then missed a three-point attempt at the buzzer that would have won it.
Nicole Bauman led the Badgers with 17 points and five assists for the Badgers (2-2).
Golden Eagles win their first
The Marquette women’s basketball team earned their first victory of the season. The Golden Eagles (1-4) scored 54 points in the first half and cruised to a 95-83 win over Florida International in the Turkey Slam opener at FIU Arena.
The Golden Eagles shot a season-high 52.4-percent from the field and 55.6-percent from three-point range for the game.
Freshman Allazia Blockton scored a career high 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the win.
Phoenix wins at Paradise Jam
The Green Bay Phoenix improved to 3-1, knocking off Tulane in game two of the Paradise Jam tournament in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Green Bay hit 12 of 18 (66.7%) from three point range in the win.
Kaili Lukan led the Phoenix with 25 points (3 of 3 from distance) and Allie LeClaire added 20 points (5 of 6 from distance) to lead the Phoenix.
Green Bay faces Rutgers in their final game of the tournament Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
Panthers fall
Miami (6-0) rolled to a 77-38 win over the Milwaukee Panthers in Coral Gables, Florida on Friday night. Jenny Lindner had 12 points, the only Milwaukee (1-2) player in double figures.
Milwaukee faces LaSalle at noon today in the Miami Thanksgiving Classic.
