Wisconsin could be a big winner, if Chicago is picked to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games .
Wisconsin Tourism Secretary Kelli Trumble says having the games in the Midwest is an amazing opportunity. She says the event could bring in billions of dollars to the region and really raise our profile as a vacation destination.
Chicago is one of four finalist cities for hosting the 2016 games. It's competing against Madrid Spain; Tokyo, Japan; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the 2016 games.
Trumble says the state has already been working closely with Illinois officials to make Wisconsin locations an option for Olympic events. She says Walworth County and the Kettle Moraine area would be prime locations for events such as cycling.
Trumble says the economic benefits could be huge for Wisconsin, even with the games primarily located in Illinois. She says an event such as the Olympics can really strengthen ties with the Illinois tourism market.
A final decision on a location for the games will be made in October of next year.
