Wisconsin ranks 47th lowest in the country in the amount of money we receive from the federal government.

Todd Berry, President of the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance, says it's been that way for awhile. He says it's largely due to a low concentration of federal employees being based in Wisconsin. Since Wisconsin doesn't have as many military installations as some states, Berry says it isn't awarded as many federal contracts.

Berry says the Badger State and others in the Midwest have traditionally been near the bottom for collecting federal funds. He says that's because the Congressional majorities put a great deal of the funding on the East and West coasts.

Wisconsin's piece of the federal pie amounts to $6,800 per capita. Only three other states, Oregon, Utah, and Nevada, are lower.
