office today, adding to Coach Gary Anderson’s first recruiting class.

The 2014 class is expected to be one of the highest-ranked at Wisconsin in years.  It’s expected to rank in the upper third in the Big Ten Conference.

The Badgers did suffer a setback this week when four-star defensive tackle Craig Evans, out of Sun Prairie decommitted and announced he would be signing with Michigan State.

Making up for the loss of Evans, the Badgers will likely be counting on 6’3, 285 lb defensive lineman Jeremy Patterson from Screven, Georgia (Wayne County).  Patterson recorded 53 tackles, 18 TFL and 14 sacks as a senior.

The Badgers are looking to improve overall team speed and they’re also looking to improve their athleticism at quarterback. That’s where D.J. Gillins (Jacksonville, Fla) comes into play.

When all of the paperwork is in, the Badgers are expected to have five wide receivers in this 2014 class. That’s an area of need for the Badgers, who struggled to find a complement to Jared Abbrederis this past season.

Overall, this 2014 class is strong on receivers and linemen, on both sides of the ball. That’s the way it is on paper. We’ll see what reality brings when the 2014 class actually hits the field.

Wisconsin coach Gary Anderson is expected to address the 2014 class at Wisconsin in a 2pm press conference in Madison today.
