Presidents Day is here but George Washington probably would not be proud. A new report says Wisconsin is falling short in teaching US history. The DC based Thomas B. Fordham Institute has given the Badger State an “F” grade for the teaching of the subject.

Fordham VP Mike Petrilli says Wisconsin essentially has no US history standards. The framework for educators is “vague” and only touches on modern eras of the country’s history but lacks the guidance for teaching.

Petrilli says the Badger State should model states with better US history standards and could improve its teaching for virtually little cost.

‘The conservative leaning education group’s research was done by two historians who appraised states for their “clarity and specificity” as well as their “content and rigor.”

Most other states didn’t fare much better than Wisconsin with 28 of them receiving a “D” or an “F.”
