Madison's Steve Stricker had a chance at the 107th U.S. Open yesterday at Oakmont Country Club. Stricker was tied for the lead at the U.S. Open midway through the final round yesterday before falling apart on the back nine and finishing tied for 13th. Fellow Madison native Jerry Kelly, after placing fifth at the Masters earlier this year, finished tied for 7th yesterday.
37 year old Angel Cabrera won the U.S. Open, his first win on the PGA Tour . He's the first Argentine to ever win a U.S. Open. Cabrera shot a final round 1-under par 69 to finish 5-over par for the Championship, 1-shot in front of both Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk.
Foreign-born golfers have now won the last four U.S. Opens.
