Governor Scott Walker is asking for a federal disaster declaration in 11 Wisconsin counties, following heavy rains and flooding that hit the state in late June. The storms caused mudslides and washed out roads, causing an estimated $9.2 million in damage to public infrastructure.

The areas most heavily hit were in Southwestern and Northwestern parts of the state. The request covers Ashland, Bayfield, Crawford, Dane, Grant, Iowa, Richland, Rock, St. Croix, Sauk, and Vernon Counties, as well as the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

The declaration would make the state eligible for federal disaster assistance. If the request is approved, the federal government would cover 75-percent of repair costs.
