Afghanistan's army will be getting some Wisconsin expertise, as members of the National Guard mobilize this week.

Lieutenant Colonel Tim Donovan says a specially-formed unit made up mainly of volunteers from around the state will depart from Madison this Friday, to head for training in Kansas. The 17 soldiers will eventually head to Afghanistan to help train and mentor a new national army there.

Donovan says the mission is expected to last one year.
