The Department of Health and Human Services is directing $150 million toward community health centers nationwide, with a portion of that money coming to Wisconsin.

In the Badger State, 16 community health centers will share nearly $1.8 million. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says the money, which is provided under the Affordable Care Act, will allow those facilities to hire new staff and assist the public in signing up for health insurance coverage.

The awards in Wisconsin range from about $62,000 to almost $240,000. The Department estimates it will allow those centers to hire about 40 new workers, make technological upgrades, and will help about 26,000 people enroll in health insurance plans.

Wisconsin centers receiving funding include facilities in Appleton, Beloit, Cashton, Kenosha, Green Bay, Iron River, Lakewood, Madison, Marshfield, Milwaukee, Sheboygan, Wausau, and Wautoma.
