Home sales in Wisconsin were at their highest level in a decade during 2015.

Figures released by the Wisconsin Realtors Association show its members sold about 77,000 homes during the last year, an 11.1 percent increase over the year before. It’s also the highest number sold in the state since before the recession hit in 2005.

Association President Michael Theo attributed the increase largely to interest rates holding relatively stable for most of the year. He added that one thing that may have kept numbers from going even higher was the fact that the inventory of available homes has actually been on the decline, due in part to a drop in the number of foreclosures in the state. There were only about 11,000 during 2015, which is similar to pre-recession levels.

The statewide median price also saw an increase last year, climbing 5.1 percent over 2014. Theo said that put it up to a statewide average of about $155,500.
