A Wisconsin couple is keeping a close eye on Egypt as their family deals firsthand with the situation over there. Jim and Susie Miller’s son Adam, daughter-in-law Amirah and their two children live in the revolution-changed Middle Eastern country.
Jim Miller says the recent turmoil in Egypt that led to the demise of ruler Hosni Mumbarek was “18 days of good news/bad news.”
Miller says his son and daughter-in-law are feeling a great sense of relief about the new government but he doesn’t believe they are out of the woods yet, as workers continue to demand change to their employers.
Adam, a 1985 Lincoln High School graduate, and Amirah live in a gated community in New Cairo. He’s employed as a web designer and just began teaching a couple of new courses at the American University in Cairo. She is employed as a buyer across the internet.
Miller is hearing reports of Egyptian scientists and mathematicians who had left their native country due to the oppressive conditions but are optimistic about moving back there.
“Egypt is in for, I think, an influx of very smart people,” he says.
