DHS reports increase in domestic cyclosporiasis cases in Wisconsin (MADISON)
Wisconsin’s domestic cyclosporiasis cases nearly double. Officials with Wisconsin’s Department of Health reported as of mid week, Wisconsin had 216 cases which includes 94 domestic infections, which involves people who did not travel outside the U.S. Last week, the department reported 50 domestic cases. Also in the past week, two additional hospitalizations were reported in Wisconsin, bringing the total number of hospitalizations in the state to 5. During a typical cyclospora season, Wisconsin sees between 20 and 30 domestically acquired cases.

A central Wisconsin city pumps the brakes on a data center. A tech company has been in talks to replace the vacant paper mill in Wisconsin Rapids with a data center. W J F W reports mayor Matt Zacher wants to slow down the potential sale of the property after community pushback at recent city meetings. Former New York City mayor Eric Adams was in person to represent potential buyer PNK Group at an open house last week. Zacher says they can’t outright ban the proposed project, but that the city wants to ensure that the sale of the vacant property is right for the community.
Elderly woman saved from scam by buying wrong gift cards (HORICON)
A lucky save for a Horicon woman who nearly got caught in a phone scam. Fox 6 Milwaukee reports Horicon police had to assist an elderly woman who was being harassed by phone scammers claiming her computer was hacked and she needed to pay them 1000 dollars in Apple Pay cards to get it fixed. The woman misheard the scammers and instead bought Applebee’s gift cards instead. When she tried to give them to the scammers, they hung up on her. Fox 6 helped the woman’s family get a complete refund on the gift cards.
