Green Bay’s new city clerk taking steps to restore election system (GREEN BAY)
Green Bay’s new interim city clerk is taking steps to restore trust after a pair of absentee ballot double mailings. Interim clerk Stacy Menke (MAN-key) tells W B A Y-TV she already has plans in place to prevent the double mailings that forced the resignation of former clerk Celestine Jeffreys. Menke says she’ll will use two layers of checks before ballots are mailed out, rather than letting one staffer handle them. Jeffreys admitted to causing one of the two double mailings prior to her resignation, saying she thought a pack of ballots hadn’t been mailed and sent them out again. No votes were double counted in either of the incidents.
Epic wants to use medical records to create AI system in MyChart (VERONA)
Epic Systems wants to use AI to predict your future health. The Verona-based maker of the MyChart health records system wants to scrape millions of patients’ medical data and let AI handle possible diagnosis. That announcement was part of Tuesday’s annual User Group Meeting at Epic. Epic officials say using their own AI system will help keep patients and doctors from using Claude or ChatGPT, which are not secure for medical information.
Bay Beach Park receives donations to pay down debt, restart improvements (GREEN BAY)
Bay Beach Park in Green Bay is getting community support for renovations. The Friends of Bay Beach is donating 1 point 5 million dollars to help pay off the park’s debt. That comes with a caveat that the city will not add any new debt to the park in the next two years. The current debt is from a loan the city took out in 2018 to make improvements at the park which stalled out due to the pandemic and rising construction costs. The city has agreed that any park funding will go immediately towards stormwater management, shoreline restoration, or repairs to the park’s train ride system.
Polling firm shuts down after posting fake results (UNDATED)
A polling company shuts down after fabricating results leading up to Wisconsin’s primary election. A poll by Median Strategies claimed Madison Democrat Francesca Hong had a 23-point lead over Democrat David Crowley of Milwaukee who ended up winning by just over 3-thousand votes. It turns out the poll by Median Strategies was bogus and created as a social experiment. It kind of fell flat in Wisconsin as most media here didn’t use those numbers that actually were pretty close to the legitimate polls. Median Strategies however has created a fuss in LA’s upcoming mayoral run-off, predicting a big win for Incumbent Karen Bass which the Bass campaign posted on their website. It’s since been removed.
Milwaukee road raging shooting victim ID’d (MILWAUKEE)
The victim of a road rage shooting in Milwaukee is identified. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office identifies 44-year-old Minerva Hernandez Lopez as the victim in the midafternoon Monday shooting on the city’s south side. Video footage shared with WISN 12 News but not released publicly shows Hernandez Lopez stopping her vehicle, slowly backing up in front of the suspected shooter’s car, then driving off. That’s followed by gunfire heard off-camera, with the suspect’s vehicle speeding away and Hernandez Lopez’s car coming to a stop. She died at the scene. An 18-year-old suspect remains in custody.
