Turnout at the polls is expected to be typical of a fall primary, according to Reid Magney of the Government Accountability Board. “Our projection is up to 20 percent of the voting age population. Statewide that’s approximately 870,500 voters.”

A couple of hotly-contested races will be decided in tomorrow’s primary election, providing incentive for voter’s to get out. There’s a four-way Republican race for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by longtime Senator Herb Kohl. There’s also a Democratic primary for a congressional seat currently being held by Tammy Baldwin.

Magney says the GAB balances interest those races with the early election date when projecting turnout. “This primary is in August instead of September and some people may be on vacation, some students may not be back to campus yet, so that may pull turnout down a little bit.”

Names are also on the ballot for some legislative districts in the state.
