Voter turnout in the Tuesday’s primary election was slightly higher than originally projected.

The state Government Accountability Board had anticipated that about 10 percent of eligible voters would show up at the polls during the election. The prediction was not that far off, with unofficial returns putting the number at 12.66 percent. The GAB says about 563,000 ballots were cast this week, out of an estimated voting age population in the state of about 4.5 million people.

The only statewide race was a three-way primary for Wisconsin Supreme Court, which saw Justice Rebecca Bradley and Appeals Court Judge JoAnne Kloppenburg advancing to the April 5 primary over Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Joe Donald. Several communities also had local referenda and primary races appearing on their ballots.

Official numbers are due in a few weeks, after the results are certified.
