Wisconsin’s unemployment rate remained unchanged last month, holding steady to close the year at 5.2 percent.

State labor officials note the state’s seasonally-adjusted jobless rate is more than a full-percent less than where it was a year ago. Unemployment continues to be at its lowest since the fall of 2008 when the Great Recession began in earnest. The national unemployment rate for December was 5.6 percent.

The Department of Workforce Development also said a preliminary total of 7,600 private-sector jobs were created from November to December. However, those numbers are based on only 3.5 percent of Wisconsin’s employers. The figures often end up being heavily revised later on.
