Most of the state appears to have handled the heavy snowfall over the weekend without any major problems. Up to nine inches of snow fell on parts of the state during the weekend winter storm, which started late Saturday and ran into Sunday afternoon.
Despite the messy cleanup and sometimes hazardous driving conditions, Tod Pritchard with Wisconsin Emergency Management says there appears to have been no serious accidents out on the roads. “We didn’t have any big backups, we didn’t have any major accidents, we had no major injuries. So, I think that people took the warning of the storm coming and just kind of hunkered down through the morning hours and let the road crews do their work.”
Pritchard says the cleanup was helped by the fact that the fast moving storm left behind a relatively light-weight snow. “If this would have been more of a kind of traditional slow-moving winter storm, we would have had a lot more moisture dumped on us. So, I think in that aspect we kind of lucked out.”
While the snow is done falling for now, colder weather is moving in. Pritchard says Christmas Eve morning will be bring subzero temperatures across much of the state.
