WisconsinEye is another step closer to broadcasting at the Capitol. The network providing C-SPAN style coverage of state government now has final approval to start installing its systems at the Capitol. President Chris Long says they plan to start work by the end of this month. They'll be putting wiring behind the walls in several hearing rooms, both chambers of the Legislature, the Governor's conference room, and the State Supreme Court chambers.

Long says installing the cables will be delicate work, but they have a construction team that knows the building. They'll be working with several of the firms who took part in the Capitol renovation and reconstruction project a few years ago.

If all goes well, Long says they should be on the air in some markets by this spring. He expects to have the Legislature and Joint Finance Committee on the air by mid-May. Long says other coverage should then be ready to go in the fall.

The network is currently talking with cable providers in Madison and Milwaukee to get WisconsinEye on the air. All coverage they provide will also be made available online .
