T.J. Edwards
T. J. Edwards’ rookie season with the Wisconsin Badger football team has been a smashing success.
Edwards was recognized Monday for his efforts as a key contributor to a Wisconsin defensive unit that ranked second in scoring defense (13.7 ppg) and third in total defense (268.5 ypg) in the FBS this season, earning a place on the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America Team.
Edwards started all 13 games as a redshirt freshman, leading the team in tackles with 84. He also added 6.5 tackles for loss, broke up four passes and forced a fumble.
Edwards was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after racking up 16 tackles in Wisconsin’s win over Purdue on Oct. 17.
Edwards is the fifth Wisconsin player to earn a place on the FWAA Freshman All-America Team, which dates back to 2001. He joins RB Anthony Davis (2001), RB P.J. Hill (2006), K Philip Welch (2008) and LB Chris Borland (2009).
Edwards is one of three Big Ten players named to this year’s 29-member team, joining Penn State RB Saquon Barkley and Michigan DB Jabrill Peppers.
