You have just a few more days to capture images along Wisconsin’s officially designated back roads.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the state’s Rustic Roads program which recognizes Wisconsin’s scenic state and county roads.
Scenic Byways and Rustic Roads Coordinator Jane Carrola says Wisconsin’s Rustic Roads program captures some of the best scenery nature has to offer. “It should be lightly traveled with some outstanding characteristics surrounding it, such as woods, views of lakes, natural agricultural views. You never know what little surprise or scenic vista you might come across when you travel on one.”
DOT officials are asking for your best photos for the state’s 2014 Rustic Roads Photo Contest to commemorate the anniversary. “We’re looking for photos that highlight the best natural qualities, features, and vistas commonly found on these officially designated rustic roads.”
There are 117 rustic roads to explore in all corners of Wisconsin. Each offers its own scenic views or historic features. The contest runs through the end of the year, and you can get more info online.
