According to new figures just released, Wisconsin's tax ranking is going down.

According to the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance, state and local taxes ate up just over twelve percent of personal income. Compared to the rest of the country Wisconsin now ranks eighth. Down from number six.

The Alliance's Dale Knapp says that may sound like good news but in reality Wisconsin taxes remained just about the same. Taxes went up in other states. Alaska and Rhode Island jumped past Wisconsin.

Corporate income tax collections did go up but revenue from individual, property and sales taxes either fell slightly or remained steady as they relate to personal income.

Knapp says the current state budget, as proposed, does include increased fees and taxes and if passed Wisconsin would probably jump back up to number five or six in rank.
