A Kenosha County woman is dead after going back into her burning apartment to rescue some pets. The 9-1-1 call sent Sheriff's deputies and Town of Somers fire units to a multi- unit building, where the sleeping residents of unit 103 woke up to the flames and smoke, and ran outside as an alarm got others out of the building.

Sheriff's reports say the woman went back inside and became trapped, succumbing to the smoke and heat, despite efforts by deputies to get her out. The apartment in question was heavily damaged by the fire, while others were effected by varying degrees of smoke. What started the fire remains under investigation, but it's NOT suspicious. The name of the victim has not been released at this point.

UPDATE : The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department has identified the victim as 30 year-old Amber Brubaker.
