More women in Wisconsin are running up gambling debts.

Rose Gruber of the Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling says, since the group opened a gambling help line in 1996, calls from men have seen a 32 percent increase, while the number of female callers is up 91 percent. She says most of them have problems with casino betting, such as playing slot machines. But, she says an increasing number are also running up big debts from sports betting.

Gruber believes the increase is largely due to accessibility, with casinos, lotteries, and other options readily available across Wisconsin.

Overall, the gambling helpline saw a six percent increase in calls last year. Gruber says the majority were from women.
