The president wasn’t the only attraction this week.

The world’s largest dairy show continues in Madison. Lisa Behnke Marketing Manager, World Dairy Expo, calls the event “second to none.” Attendees can look forward to a gold mine of technology, products and services. “Everything about it is built for people that milk dairy cows; and it doesn’t matter if you milk 50 cows or 5,000 cows or if you come from Nigeria or Mt. Horeb. It’s all about working with cows, and there are people here that have just a real passion for the business.”

Behnke says it’s a great opportunity to exchange ideas; the World Dairy Expo offers free daily seminars on industry issues, helping visitors to stay knowledgeable and competitive in a global marketplace.

While the show is predominantly about cows, Behnke says a small element of the show is devoted to dairy products. The ice cream booth is a popular destination at the trade show, and she says, “you want to make sure you’ve got one of the Badger Dairy Club’s grilled cheese sandwiches — cheddar or Swiss — you can’t go wrong, they’re great; Followed up with a chocolate malt. … It’s a celebration of all that’s great about the Dairy Industry.”

More than 65,000 producers and industry enthusiasts from 90 countries are expected to attend the world’s largest dairy-focused trade show, which has a $14-million-plus economic impact. The 44th annual event goes through October 2, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

NOTE: Behnke realizes many farmers can’t get away from their milking schedules, so they offer photos and videos on their website. For more information, contact World Dairy Expo at 608-224-6455, via email at [email protected] or visit www.worlddairyexpo.com.
