University of Wisconsin assistant men’s golf coach Robbie Ziegler fired a 4-under par 66 and holds the lead after the opening round of the 113th State Amateur Championship at Ozaukee Country Club on Monday.
Ziegler is one of just three players to break par. 16-year old Christopher Colla is two shots back after an opening round 68. Colla is from Winnebago Lutheran High School and is the reigning WIAA Division 2 state champion.
Marquette University’s Brandon Cloete from South Africa, shot a 69.
Ziegler made six birdies and two bogeyed just twice in his opening round. He had a standout collegiate career at Oregon where he played in the NCAA Division I Championship three times.
