At the NCAA Division 3 baseball Regionals,

Starting with the Midwest Regional in La Crosse, the host Eagles remain unbeaten in the double elimination tournament, rolling to a 12-3 win over Concordia-Chicago.

The victory puts the Eagles in the Midwest Regional Championship at 3:30 this afternoon.  It’s also the 37th win of the season for La Crosse, breaking the record of 36 set in 2015.

Taylor Kohlwey’s first inning double extended his hitting streak to 48 games, the second longest in NCAA Division III history.  He also tied his own school record (2014) with his 88th hit of the season, and broke the UWL single-season record for doubles in a season with 21.  Kohlwey would later add his 89th hit of the season. Midwest League Scoreboard

Midwest League LogoThere was day baseball in the Midwest League this afternoon.

In Beloit, the Snappers fell to the Lansing Lugnuts 6-1.

In the Fox Cities, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers blanked the Great Lakes 1-0.

Midwest League LogoThere was day baseball in the Midwest League on Wednesday afternoon.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers salvaged the final game of their series in Burlington, knocking off the Bee’s 10-4.

The Beloit Snappers fell to the Clinton Lumberkings 2-0.

Wild comeback gives Beloit MWL victory over Wisconsin

Midwest League LogoThe Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had a 4-1 lead over the Beloit Snappers heading into the bottom of the fourth inning at Pohlman Field on Friday night.  But the Snappers rallied in the bottom of the fourth and went on to win a shortened game 9-5 in Midwest League Action.

That bottom of the fourth featured a bank of lights going out to force a delay, a hit batsman, a walk, a wild pitch, five Wisconsin errors and twelve Beloit batters coming to the plate to score seven runs.

The Snappers added a run in the 5th before a snowstorm shortened the game to five innings. [Read more…]

Rattlers & Snappers strikeout

The Beloit Snappers knocked off the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-3 in Midwest League baseball action on Wednesday night.

Three of the Snappers runs scored on wild pitches and the two teams combined to strikeout 33 times.  Three Wisconsin pitchers combined to strike out 17 Beloit hitters.  Meanwhile, four Snapper pitchers combined to strikeout 16 Rattlers.

The two teams play again tonight at 7:05pm.

Rattlers open season victorious

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers opened defense of their 2012 Midwest League crown with a 5-4, 11-inning victory over the Peoria Chiefs on Thursday night.  Michael Reed scored the go-ahead run on an error, one of six in the game between the two teams.  The Rattlers and Chiefs also combined for 16 walks in the contest.

Tyler Wagner allowed one run on four hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts in five innings of work to start.

Game 2 of the four game series is tonight in Peoria.

In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the home team beat the Beloit Snappers 9-4.  Game 2 of that series is tonight.
