MotionW_2ColorThe 3rd ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team took an early lead and never looked back on its way to a 5-1 win over St. Cloud State in the opening game of the best-of-three WCHA first round playoff series on Friday night at LaBahn Arena.

Five different players scored for the Badgers in the win (Sarah Nurse, Brittany Ammerman, Katy Josephs, Baylee Wellhausen and Rachel Jones).

The Badgers (25-6-4) got on the board four times in the first period against St. Cloud State (8-27-1).

The Two teams meet for game two of the series tonight (7 p.m.) at LaBahn Arena.  The winner of the series will skate in the WCHA Final Faceoff, March 7-8, in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Badger men fall in Ann Arbor

The Wisconsin men’s hockey team (4-21-4, 2-11-2-0) was shutout for the second-straight game, as No. 17 Michigan (18-11-0, 10-5-0-0) took down the Badgers 3-0 on Friday night at Yost Arena.

The two teams wrap up the series this afternoon at 3 p.m., on the Big Ten Network.
