The Wisconsin women’s soccer team captured the Big Ten Championship on Saturday night. Micaela Powers goal in the 81st minute gave the Badgers a 1-0 win over Maryland in College Park to clinch at least a share of Wisconsin’s first Big Ten regular season title since 1994.
Wisconsin (11-4-3, 8-1-1 Big Ten) returns home on Wednesday for its home and regular-season finale against Northwestern with a chance to claim the title outright.
The game appeared headed for overtime until Powers picked a great time to score her first goal of the year.
Wisconsin’s run of eight straight wins matches the fifth-longest streak in school history and the first of that length since 1987.
