Brewers logoJimmy Nelson’s problems continued on Sunday as the Milwaukee Brewers dropped a 9-3 decision to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Nelson failed to make it through the fifth inning for the third straight outing, lasting just 4 1/3 innings on Sunday.

Nelson allowed 7 runs (6-earned) on seven hits, walking three and striking out four.

The Brewers did jump out to a 2-0 lead.  Jonathan Villar scored on a wild pitch and homered, accounting for both runs early.

With Arizona up 3-2, the Brewers tied it in the fifth when Villar scored on Orlando Arcia’s single.  But the Diamondbacks took the lead right back, scoring twice in the bottom half of the inning.

Michael Blazek relieved Nelson and coughed up a two-run, pinch-hit homer to Phil Gosselin that stretched the Diamondbacks’ lead to 8-3.  They would get one more run off of Blazek in the sixth.

The Brewers are off today and will open a series against Atlanta on Tuesday night.

Wily Peralta

After the Brewers 9-3 loss on Sunday, the Brewers announced that Wily Peralta would be recalled from Class AAA Colorado Springs to start Tuesday nights game against Atlanta.

Peralta will replace Junior Guerra, who is experiencing a sore right elbow.  Guerra lasted a season-low four innings during his last start in San Diego but has gone 7-3 with a 2.93 ERA in 17-starts this season.

Peralta was the Brewers opening day starter but was sent to Colorado Springs after struggling.  He went 1-3 with a 6.31 ERA in 10 starts with the Sky Sox.

The Brewers also optioned reliever David Goforth and will recall right-hander Rob Scahill from Colorado Springs.

And the team announced outfielder Domingo Santana will restart a minor-league rehab stint at Class A Wisconsin today.
