Brewers logoThe Milwaukee Brewers sent their starting shortstop, former NL All-Star Jean Segura to the Arizona Diamondbacks as a part of a five-player deal on Saturday.

The Diamondbacks also picked up right-handed pitcher Tyler Wagner in the deal for right handed pitcher Chase Anderson, infielder Aaron Hill, minor league shortstop Isan Diaz and cash.

Arizona made Anderson available after signing free agent Zach Greinke and trading for All-Star pitcher Shelby Miller.

The Diamondbacks were looking for a little more offense, despite ranking second in the National League in scoring last season.

The 25-year-old Segura hit .257 with six homers and 50 RBI last season.  He also stole 25 bases.  Segura was an All-star in 2013 with the Brewers after a hot first half, but he slumped in the second half, as well as the next season.

Segura was originally acquired by the Brewers when they sent Zach Greinke to the Angels.  Now he’ll be on the same team as the Diamondbacks ace right-hander.

Segura’s departure from the Brewers creates space for top prospect Orlando Arcia to join the Big League roster sooner than later.  The 21-year-old Arcia is among the top shortstop prospects in the minors.  He hit .307 with eight home runs, 69 RBIs and 25 stolen bases at Double-A Biloxi last season.

The Brewers get two proven major league players in return in Chase Anderson and Aaron Hill.

The 28-year old Anderson was 6-6 with a 4.30 ERA in 27 starts last season.  Hill turns 34 in march.  He has played eleven seasons in the majors and has hit .429 with four home runs in ten career games at Miller Park.

The 19-year-old Diaz hit .360 with 13 home runs and 51 RBIs at rookie level Missoula.  He was the Pioneer League MVP.

Wagner made his Major League debut with the Brewers last season.  The 25-year-old went 0-2 with a 7.24 ERA in three starts.
