The final financial hurdle in the Milwaukee Bucks pursuit of a new downtown arena was cleared Tuesday when the city’s Common Council voted 12-3 in favor of a $47-million package.
It is the last piece of the $250-million of public funding towards the new venue, which is be built on vacant land north of the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The Common Council still needs to approve the arena design plans before the team can break ground, which owner says it plans to do in November.
Bucks President Peter Feigen said in a statement that Tuesday was “a truly historic day for Milwaukee and Wisconsin.”
In other news, forward Jabari Parker has been cleared to participate in the team’s training camp when it opens September 29 in Madison.
Parker torn the ACL in his left knee just 25 games into his rookie season and is expected to be a welcomed addition to a team that reached the postseason last year.
The Bucks have said they will ease Parker back into the mix, limiting the workload placed on the repaired knee.
