The state Elections Board made the right decision Wednesday, according to the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.
The watchdog group, which originally urged the Elections Board to review Mark Green's transfer of Political Action Committee contributions from his congresstional campaign to his campaign for governor, is feeling vindicated today. “The Elections Board ruling is really a victory for the voters,” said Democracy Campaign research director Mike Buelow. “What they did is affirm Wisconsin law . . that any Political Action Committee that wants to do business in this state, that wants to contribute to candidates, as to be registered in this state.”
The Elections Board determined that some $467,000 was donated to Green, by PACs not registered in Wisconsin. The board adopted an emgergency rule in July, that money transferred from a federal campaign account to a state campaign committee can only be spent on a campaign for state office if the funds comply with all of Wisconsin?s campaign finance laws.
