The E. coli spinach scare has left many wondering just what produce is safe to eat. While the source of the current outbreak seems to be farms in California, and not local growers in Wisconsin, people are still asking questions about where their food is coming from.

Larry Johnson is the manager of the Dane County Farmers Market, which sets up every Saturday around the state Capitol square. He says the questions are good, but adds that products at his market are inspected. Johnson says all products must be produced in Wisconsin, and produced by the person running the stand. Inspectors go out and verify that vendors are following the rules.

Even state health officials say locally grown products are safe, especially now that the E. coli source seems to be miles away in California. Johnson says it's overkill for people to avoid local products during a nationwide scare.
