The Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team started the night in a three-way tie for the Horizon League lead with Wright State and Youngstown State.  When the dust settled, it was the Phoenix who stood alone, atop the Horizon League.

Green Bay (17-8, 10-3 HL) took care of Wright State (20-8, 9-4), pulling out a 79-72 overtime win at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio on Thursday night.  Youngstown State also lost, falling to Illinois-Chicago, dropping the Penguins from a share of the Horizon League lead.

Green Bay’s freshmen answered the call on Thursday night.  Freshman Mehryn Kraker scored 15 of her 19 points in the second half.  Tesha Buck added 16 points and 10 rebounds and Sam Zastrow had a career game, finishing with 12 points and six assists in 29 minutes.

Green Bay shot 45.9% from the field and held the Lady Raiders to 33%.

The Phoenix will travel to Valparaiso to face the Crusaders on Saturday night (7pm).
