A pending deal will leave virtually no chance that General Motors will ever resume operations at its Janesville plant.

The tentative agreement between the United Auto Workers and GM moves the plant off a list of properties under moratorium from closure or sale. The plant was idled in 2009 and has sat empty on “stand-by” ever since.

UAW national leaders approved the proposed contract with GM Wednesday. It includes raises, health care improvements and signing bonuses for workers.

The Janesville plant originally opened in 1919, and reached peak employment in the 1970s.
