A Kenosha County jury has returned guilty verdicts against a man accused of causing fatal injuries to his 11-month-old daughter by slamming her into the ground in a fit of rage and trying to kill the child’s mother.
The jury deliberated for just 90 minutes Thursday before reaching guilty verdicts on all seven charges that had been filed against 35-year-old Russell Rose, Jr.
During his closing arguments, Kenosha County District Attorney Bob Zapf noted the testimony from Rose, offered in police video interviews, included admission of killing his only child because he was angry with his girlfriend over their failing relationship. Prosecutors said Rose slammed that baby after a violent argument with the mother, who also suffered multiple injuries during their confrontation.
Rose was charged with two counts of first degree intentional homicide, along with battery, strangulation, false imprisonment, arson, and reckless endangerment charges. He did not take the witness stand during the trial. He will be sentenced on December 3 and faces life in prison.
