An outpouring of support for a fallen Wauwatosa police officer apparently has officials with the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund reconsidering a decision not to add her name this spring.
Wisconsin Professional Police Association executive director Jim Palmer says the Memorial’s board now plans to take another look at Officer Jennifer Sebena’s case next week.
Palmer says board members have told him they will meet on April 3rd to take up the issue, even though the non-profit group announced just last week that her inclusion would not be considered again until at least 2014. He believes a recent outpouring of public support through social media and online petitions, along with law enforcement agencies across the country advocating on behalf of Sebena’s case, is prompting the move.

A message seeking comment from the Memorial Board was not immediately returned.
Sebena was shot and killed on Christmas Eve while on duty. Her husband has been charged with her murder. Officials with the Memorial initially rejected the inclusion of her name, saying she was the victim of domestic violence. Palmer says that reasoning goes against the cases of other officers included on the memorial, such as a Louisiana police officer who was gunned down by her estranged husband in 2006 while on duty.
