An agreement reached between the state and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation will give researchers free access to stem cell lines maintained by WARF. The free license will be available for research being done in non-profit or academic settings.
Wisconsin Department of Commerce Secretary Mary Burke says the state will also provide other incentives, such as $250,000 in relocation grants and tax credits for companies that are just getting started.
Burke says the agreement will help Wisconsin attract more researchers and compete with other states that are trying to advance stem cell research.
Some experts predict a $10 billion market for stem cell products over the next decade.
