Health officials have identified the potential source of a massive E. coli outbreak, and that should be good news for Wisconsinites who enjoy spinach. Officials in New Mexico say they've found spinach that may help link the outbreak to farms in California. Jason Helgerson with the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services says that's great news for consumers, because it makes them able to find sources for spinach that aren't tainted.

Forty E. coli cases have been reported in the state since the outbreak started. Helgerson says it's still not clear why Wisconsin was hit harder than any other state.

Federal warnings do remain in place for people to avoid fresh spinach.
