Eighteen months in prison for a state employee convicted of steering a state contract to a travel agency with political ties to Governor Jim Doyle.
The 56 year-old Thompson was also ordered to pay a $4,000 fine. She'll also have three years of supervised release after her prison term. Heck says it's a sobering sentence, but one the judge must have felt fit the crime. A jury convicted Thompson of steering a state travel contract to Adelman Travel. Adelman executives had donated $20,000 to Doyle's campaign. Heck says one question remains unanswered; whether Thompson may have been pressured by Doyle administration appointees.
Heck says Mark Green's gubernatorial campaign will no doubt attempt to use the Thompson conviction and sentencing as proof of corruption within the Doyle administration.
