Proposed legislation could delay the DOT’s plans for new roundabouts Wisconsin. This the second time the bill has been introduced by state Representative David Craig (R-Big Bend), who wants local buy-in on future roundabouts. “Every roundabout seems to have its own personality, and I think that’s part of the problem,” Craig said Wednesday during a public hearing on the bill before the Assembly Transportation Committee.

Craig’s bill would require a vote by local governments in order for roundabout projects to proceed.

Wisconsin DOT Deputy Secretary Tom Rhatican said allowing the local votes could slow down crucial projects, and the DOT already allows for local input. “Where safety concerns were not a primary factor, and community opinions were opposed, other intersection designs are typically typically selected,” Rhatican said.
