Wisconsin’s fall colors have faded rapidly over the past two weeks. A sudden mid-October cooldown, plus some more rain, have put the majestic orange-and-yellow leaves past their peak in virtually all of the northern half of Wisconsin.

The state tourism department’s website says your best chance of seeing good colors this weekend are in the Racine and Kenosha areas — and in western Wisconsin between Eau Claire and La Crosse. That region is at 70 percent of its peak.

Normally, the far southern part of the state is at its brightest about now. However, all but two southeast counties are listed as being at or past their peaks for the season.
