The head of the Marquette Law School Poll says a supposed “social experiment” by group releasing false polling data didn’t get the attention of reputable agencies. Charles Franklin tells WISN’s UPFRONT the polling data by “Median Strategies” never crossed his mind when handling the polling data ahead of the Wisconsin primary election. The fake polling by Median Strategies was caught after a candidate in the Los Angeles mayor’s race posted the outfit’s polling data on social media. The group claimed they were performing a “social experiment”.
New Berlin mayor accused of making racist posts on social media (NEW BERLIN)
The mayor of New Berlin (BURR-lin) is facing criticism for posting racist jokes and memes on his personal social media feeds. A Muslim advocacy group called attention to the posts by Mayor Dave Ament last week. The messages which have since been deleted dated back months and featured anti-Muslim messages, some of which were AI generated. Some of the messages called for the closure of all mosques in America, while others made crude jokes of Muslims in general. The city of New Berlin told Fox 6 Milwaukee that the Mayor’s personal page does not represent the views of the city. Mayor Ament also released a statement saying he was simply sharing matters of public concern and that he supports all faiths to practice their religion.
Hunters encouraged to take part in Deer Donation program (UNDATED)
Wisconsin hunters are being encouraged to help feed families in need through the DNR’s Deer Donation Program. The Department of Natural Resources says its Deer Donation Program has provided venison to food pantries across Wisconsin for more than 25 years. Program Manager Marcus Rufledt says hunters have donated more than 100-thousand deer since the program began in 2000, resulting in about four million pounds of ground venison. The DNR has also increased reimbursement rates for participating meat processors to help keep the program running smoothly. More information is available on the DNR website.
High school football player dies following injury in game (ALMA)
A Wisconsin high school football player dies after being injured in a game last week. An Alma Center Lincoln High School senior has died after being injured during a football game Thursday against Turtle Lake. District Superintendent Drew Semingson says Adam Massman was active in sports, clubs and activities, and touched many lives across the school community. EMTs treated Massman at the game before he was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The district is not releasing details about the injury at the family’s request. Counselors will be available for students, parents and friends beginning Monday.
New data shows ACA enrollment down in Wisconsin (UNDATED)
New data shows Affordable Care Act health insurance enrollment is down in Wisconsin. About 45,000 fewer Wisconsinites are enrolled in ACA marketplace health plans after enhanced federal tax subsidies expired late last year. New data from health news and policy organization KFF shows enrollment dropped 16%, from a peak of more than 306,000 to about 245,000 people. Many consumers citing rising costs as the reason for dropping or changing coverage. Health experts warn a growing number of uninsured patients could increase financial pressure on hospitals and drive up costs across the health care system.
