State grant will expand Northwoods bike trail (BOULDER JUNCTION)
A popular Northwoods nature trail will be getting bigger. The Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail will be getting an extension next year thanks to a state grant. The 55 mile long trail winds through the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest from Mercer to St. Germain (JERR-main), with its start in Boulder Junction. The expansion would add another 3 and a half miles to the east side of the trail. The bike trail generates 25 million dollars a year in tourism for the region.
Slender Man attacker restarts release process (UNDATED)
A woman convicted in the “Slender Man” stabbing wants to restart the process for conditional release. Morgan Geyser is currently serving 40 years of mental health supervision for her role in the 2014 attack on a classmate in Waukesha. Geyser had previously been on release in the Madison area, but cut off her monitoring bracelet and left her group home in September of 2025. She was found a few days later and returned to a mental health facility. Geyser is allowed to request conditional release every six months, and this would allow doctors to evaluate her again as part of the request.
Kenosha Police cancel Flock Safety contract, move to Axon systems (KENOSHA)
Another Wisconsin police department dropping Flock Safety cameras. Kenosha police are cancelling their contract with the automated license plate reader provider and moving to a different company. Kenosha Police Chief Patrick Patton tells Fox 6 Milwaukee he has serious concerns with the system and how the city’s data is being used. The city will instead be using Axon cameras, which already handles the department’s body cameras and in-vehicle license plate readers.
Umbrella causes threat alert on UWW campus (WHITEWATER)
An umbrella caused a stir on UW Whitewater’s campus on the first day of classes this week. An active threat alert on UW Whitewater’s Campus as students returned for the start of the fall semester late Wednesday morning. In the end, it turns out there was no threat. UW Whitewater Police Chief Matt Kiederlen (keeder-lynn) followed up with reporters after the all clear was given. Police say there had been a report of an individual entering Andersen Hall while yelling and they appeared to be carrying a weapon which turned out to be an umbrella. The chief explains the yelling was just the person was frustrated because the doors wouldn’t open.
