Two Rivers votes to remove fluoride from water (TWO RIVERS)
An eastern Wisconsin community is now the 14th in the state to remove fluoride from their city drinking water. The Two Rivers City Council voted 7-2 Tuesday night to remove the chemical after putting it in the water for the last 70 years. The practice of adding fluoride started in the 1940s in the U.S. as a way to help prevent cavities. City Manager Kyle Kordell brought the discussion to the council in July since it’s something the city has always done and wanted to know if the practice is something Two Rivers should continue to do. Most of the council members who voted to take the fluoride out felt that having the chemical in the water should be a personal choice for residents and not “forced on them.” Those who wanted to keep fluoride in the water were concerned about low-income families not being able obtain it if they want it.
