Sun Prairie to end contract with Flock Safety (SUN PRAIRIE)
Another Madison suburb is dropping Flock Safety. Add Sun Prairie to the list of communities cutting contracts with the security company. The city announced Wednesday it will not renew its contract with Flock at the end of year and will switch to using Axon instead. Police chief Kevin Warych said the system has helped solve crimes but that the department can no longer ensure that the city’s data is being handled securely. Dozens of communities have dropped Flock after the company offered to sell Sheboygan five years’ worth of its own residents data.
Greenfield mayor seeks firing of police chief (GREENFIELD)
The mayor of Greenfield wants to fire the police chief. Police Chief Jay Johnson is facing felony charges in Milwaukee County for destruction of data and misconduct in office. Mayor Michael Neitzke is asking the city’s police and fire commission to fire Johnson for those charges, saying there is a pattern of behavior that warrants his removal. Johnson will have a chance to rebut the request in front of the commission. Johnson has a November court date in Milwaukee County on the felony charges.
Alliant Energy determines rates for data center service (MADISON)
Alliant Energy has set its price for data centers. The utility earlier this month sent a “large load” rate for approval with the Public Service Commission after the Commission ruled the company needed to find a standard rate for hyperscale data centers. This comes in response to Alliant’s original filings to provide power to a Meta data center in Beaver Dam. Alliant would charge its large customers the full price for any new power generation that needed to be built to handle their facilities, and would prevent rate increases for the rest of Alliant’s customer base. The P S C will have to approve the request.
