Oneida County to remove Flock Safety cameras (RHINELANDER)
Oneida County will be pulling down its Flock Safety cameras. Chief Deputy Terri Hook tells WJFW TV in Rhinelander the cameras are already offline, and have been since the end of August. Hook says the cameras have provided valuable information for officers, but that the data privacy concerns other communities have been sharing along with the public opposition to Flock warranted their removal. Communities across the state have been removing the cameras after objections were raised in Sheboygan over data sharing outside of Flock’s contract.
One arrested at Oshkosh school following lockdown (OSHKOSH)
One person is in custody after an incident at Oshkosh North High School. Oshkosh police say the school was alerted to a weapon on campus Wednesday morning, which prompted a lockdown. Officers entered the building and located the person who had the weapon and took them into custody. The lockdown has since been lifted and school district officials say everyone is safe and that parents do not need to come get their students. No further information has been released.
Former site of UW-Waukesha to become housing (WAUKESHA)
The former site of UW-Waukesha is set to become housing. A proposal to sell the campus passed the Waukesha County board on Tuesday. The vote will allow a development process to move forward at the city level, where the developers are planning to fill the site with mixed-unit housing. That include around 70 single family homes and 600 multi family units. The campus has been closed since 2024.
Man who allegedly set off fireworks in Madison-area store did it for “social media” (FITCHBURG)
Blame social media for the arrest of a 24 year old Madison man. Police say he lit a firework on a grocery store shelf as part of a popular social media challenge. This happened last Friday afternoon at a store in Fitchburg. The explosion caused minor damage and the store was evacuated. Luckily, nobody was hurt. Police used surveillance video from the store to identify the man, who later admitted that he lit the firework as part of a “trending online social media challenge.”
