WPR: DNR, FBI investigate fire at Enbridge line 5 work site (UNDATED)
More issues with the rerouting of a northern Wisconsin oil pipeline. Wisconsin Public Radio reports Ashland County deputies were alerted to a fire at an Enbridge Line 5 work site last week. The fire in the town of Gingles (Jingles) was quickly contained and no one was injured, but the Department of Natural Resources and the F B I are investigating, since a fire was also started at an Enbridge office in Superior last week. Enbridge officials claim the fires are vandalism. The company is working on a federally ordered reroute of Line 5 around tribal lands in northern Wisconsin.
Racine police chief says Flock Safety helped solve murder, as city votes to end contract (RACINE)
Racine’s police chief praises Flock Safety as the city votes to abandon its contract. Chief Alex Ramirez on Tuesday announced arrests of two men in the Sunday night shooting death of baskeball player Koreem Ozier. 24-year-old Collin Wallace and 23-year-old Justin Millard are in custody. Ramirez said Flock Safety sound detection technology alerted officers to the shooting, and its automated license plate reading technology led to a car connected to the shooting. Racine Mayor Corey Mason provided the tiebreaker in last week’s city council vote to end the contract. He’s standing by that decision, saying that while the company’s tools can help police, Flock Safety has lost the support and faith of the community through misuse of data it collects.
Oshkosh North High closed after weapon found on campus (OSHKOSH)
Students did not return to class at Oshkosh North High School following a firearms incident. School officials originally said classes would be held on Thursday after the arrest on Wednesday of a 16-year-old student who brought a handgun onto school grounds. The incident prompted a lockdown and then evacuation of the building while police arrested the teenager. Friday was a pre-scheduled day off from classes, so students will be back on Monday
